Brown DiamondsNatural fancy coloured diamonds are very rare and expensive. Brown is probably the last colour one would imagine for a diamond, and normally one of the lowest preference colours. It is possible however for brown diamonds to be attractive. Many people describe brown or brownish diamonds as "champagne" diamonds, presumably because it sounds more exotic, expensive and desirable. Certainly brown is not a "high preference" colour, i.e. it is not high on most people's list of favourite colours. Nevertheless fancy brown diamonds are very rare, and can be very attractive. Most fancy brown diamonds are natural rather than enhanced.

The lightness for brown diamonds is quite variable and includes a range from very light (smoke) brown to light (champagne) brown, medium (cocoa) brown and dark (coffee) brown through very dark (seal) brown. Saturation in brown diamonds is also variable, giving forth such as bright (golden) brown and deep (cognac) brown. Some brown hues are more appealing then others. The emerald cut brown diamond in our photograph is an attractive coffee colour. Currently it is available as an unmounted stone. As brown is not a high preference colour, although it is likely that enhancement processes exist which could produce brown colours. There are many other fancy colored diamonds which are far more attractive. Here is the information about other fancy colored diamonds.
